We, like the rest of Houston and our country, have been monitoring COVID-19. As of today, we are glad to report no cases have been reported among our families and staff.

In response to the ever-changing events in Houston, we are observing the suggestions of Spring Branch ISD, Houston ISD, the City of Houston, CDC, and Harris County Health Departments. Following these leads, we have made the decision to cease all after school art programs until April 10th. Hopefully, by that date, we will get the “all clear” to restart our after school program and be in a better position to make plans for our annual student art auction.

Our art teachers are exploring how we can best deliver art lessons and supplies to our students during this challenging time. Hopefully, we can use either Facebook Live or YouTube to provide on-line lessons. And, we want to find a way to provide our students with “to-go” art supply kits and instruction packages for children without access to computers.

The Edge training session for April 2nd has been canceled for the safety of all of our participants. We are actively encouraging our Edge advisors to help guide their partner companies through the current financial challenges and evaluating options for online training sessions. We are eager to resume normal operations for our Edge program as soon as we get the “all clear.”

We pray that the crisis will end quickly and that summer weather will help us return to a more normal life. We know that by the time this health crisis is over, our students will be itching to paint, create, design, and see life from a new perspective. To that end, we are planning for our Passport to the World summer programming to be held at community centers and churches around Spring Branch, including our Long Point studio.

Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Stay well, wash your hands frequently, pray fervently, and paint when necessary!

One of the earliest and most faithful supporters of Newspring has been Lupe Tortilla Restaurants.  They have been annual sponsors for our Student Art Auction and have also underwritten our annual prayer breakfast since inception.  In addition, they have provided other financial support, including gift cards that we’ve used to reward our volunteers.
Like many restaurants, Lupe Tortilla is working to keep staff employed, even during a time when their stores must be closed to in-house customers.  They are open, however, to take-out and delivery business.  So now is the time when we can return the favor of all of their years of support.  Please go to https://lupetortilla.alohaorderonline.com to see how to order.
And you know, their Mexican Food is great!
